December 26, 1944 Rovereto Railroad Bridge

Squadron War Diary
340th HQ Diary Back to the air war again. In missions today the 340th group hit both the road and rail bridges at Pordenone, 35 miles north of Venice, missed the Calliano bridge on the Brenner rail line, and managed to cut the tracks near the Rovereto bridge on the same line
486th A mission today to Roveretto, up near the Brenner Pass. The chaff and phosphorus bombs helped reduce the accuracy and amount of flak. The mission was declared successful - We hope - They get more successful every day. Doughnuts and coffee after interrogation for the crews who then hurriedly left group S-2 for the Squadron and for a dinner of fresh pork with applesauce.
487th Not assigned to this mission.
488th Not assigned to this mission
489th The mission to Northern Italy was a complete failure. There is belief that the Germans did some "jamming," causing our radio-controlled bombs to release at the wrong time.
