340th HQ Diary |
Successful attacks today on the east and south railroad bridges at Padua, and in addition, a visit by the 12th AF CG, Major General Cannon, the latter event causing every man to choke himself with a necktie he wears only when general officers pay the field a visit. |

Again a mission - fine results. |
487th |
The 487th pulled its first raid this morning in one day less than two weeks. Take-off for twelve ships was at 09:41 hours and they were over the target which was Padua East Railroad bridge at 11:47. The first box crossed the center of the bridge while the second box bombed in the smoke of preceding formations with exact results undetermined. Anti-Aircraft fire encountered was out of range and no damage was incurred. This was one of the longest, if not the longest mission we've had since being on Corsica. |
488th |
Not assigned to this mission |
489th |
Today we sent twelve planes to the Padua South railroad bridge. We dropped 48 thousand pounders and were credited with a mission efficiency of 83%. |
