July 27, 1944 Mission to Carisasca Road Bridge

Squadron War Diary
486th Mission in the morning...The remainder of the day passed with the usual work and relaxation. Oh yes, steak tonight!
487th Twelve planes of the 487th squadron took off at 08:23 to bomb a railroad bridge at Ostiglia, Italy. The formation reached the target at 09:55, but only the first box dropped their bombs on this objective. The pattern started short of the target, but covered west part of bridge. The lead ship in the second box received a burst of ack-ack on coming into the primary target and it damaged the bomb-sight and the formation held its bombs and proceeded to the alternate, a railroad bridge at PP L-994770, where they released their bombs very successfully from 10800'. Pattern covered the west approach of the railroad bridge. Ack-ack was heavy, intense and accurate over both targets, holing five of our planes.
488th Not assigned to this mission.
489th During this period (July 23 - 26) we have been operating to the fullest possible degree and there has been no time available for anything but work.
