July 19, 1944 Mission to Sassuolo Railroad Bridge

486th Mission just returned and reported direct hits on the RR Bridge.

487th Crews were on a stand-by all day until 17:00 hours when six planes took off in the rain to bomb a railroad bridge at Sassuolo in Northern Italy. The bomb pattern started short and extended across the center of the bridge scoring several direct hits. Six enemy fighters, believed to be ME 109's attacked the rear boxes although our flight was unmolested.
