July 10, 1944 Mission to Rovigo Marshalling Yards
Squadron | War Diary | |
---|---|---|
486th | No mission. So "relaxing" was the key word of the day. | |
487th | At 09:34 hours this morning twelve planes of the 487th squadron took off, laden with 95x500 bombs to attack the marshalling yards at Rovigo, Italy. At 11:09 the formation was over the target and released their bombs from 10,200' with only fair results. The first box pattern landed short of the yards while bombs of the second box are believed to have crossed the M/Y in the southern half. Orange flames and smoke were observed in the yards as a result of the bombing. Heavy, scant and inaccurate anti-aircraft fire was encountered, but no damage was inflicted on our ships and all returned safely to the base. | |
488th | Mission to Rovigo M/Y, Italy. Only squadron that got 100%. Seems our bombardiers can't miss. | |
489th | Our bombers were over the M/Y at Rovigo in the Venice area. At the time of this notation the photographs have not been developed, but interrogation disclosed that the mission was probably successful. |
