May 3, 1944 Mission to Todi North Railroad Bridge

Squadron War Diary
Group HQ This campaign in Italy against enemy communications lines is as mechanical and unvarying as a machine operation in a factory. We hit a bridge near Todi today and damaged it considerably, but the chances are by tomorrow evening German engineers will have repaired it. The same target will fall to the 321st or the 310th groups the following day, while we will batter at their targets of two days ago.
486th Briefing at 0730 hours - take-off at 0859. Target was RR bridge 5 miles north of Todi. Bombing results of the 486th was the 1st element laying a pattern across the south approach and the second element bombed the north approach and middle of bridge with a direct hit on the midle and north approach.
487th Todi North Railroad Bridge was the target for our Group formation in which six ships of the 487th participated. At 10:18 hours the formation dropped their devastating load in what may prove to be the most concentrated piece of bombing to date in this theater of War. Bombs started just short, covering the bridge at the center and right center placing the bridge in the category of a “has been.” No enemy opposition was encountered on this most successful attack.
