488th	Mission to Perugia R.R. Bridge which according to reports won't be carrying any trains tonight.
489th	All of us had expected that the Group would be inoperational for at least a few weeks. [Nearly all of the Group's aircraft had been destroyed by the erruption of Mt. Vesuvius.] Thus, we were surprised when we were assigned six ships and were alerted for a mission on the 27th. That mission took us to a railroad bridge east of Perugia. We knocked out the west approach.
