January 30, 1945 Mission to Lavis Diversion Bridge

| 487th | Lavis Railroad Diversion was the target for twelve 487th bombers this morning. The formation encountered heavy, scant but fairly accurate anti-aircraft fire which holed two ships although no injury to crew members was incurred. Evidently the Diversion remained standing as the first box overshot and the pattern of the second crossed the tracks immediately north of th west span. General Knapp was in the Group again today to make heroes out of combat men and a few of the favored ground personnel. Many of the 487th men to be decorated were absent on account of the mission - no one on the mission was disappointed either. It's surprising how they dread the decoration ceremony particularly when the Army considers it quite a morale factor. |

| 489th | Two missions were run today: One a bombing mission, the other a "nickelling" [leaflet drop] mission. Interrogation revealed that both were successful. |
